“In the early 1960s, the transistor radio became a popular way of playing music, news, and programs. Within a couple of years, the shape of the radios morphed from a small rectangle to looking like cigarette boxes, bowling balls, sci-fi blobs, and other corny and kitschy forms. While out for a walk along the Hudson River in Palisades Park, I came across this sleeping beauty—in the middle of the path no less—with the sounds of the top ten squeaking out of his telephone-shaped radio. Such innocence!”
