Martin, how interesting to see this turn up...it would be really interesting to know it’s history. Re Edition number ..truthfully I don’t know. What I do know is that it will be between two and five. One other copy was purchased by the National Gallery of Scotland and is in their permanent collection. https://www.nationalgalleries.org/art-and-artists/artists/paul-kenny I have two prints in my storage boxes and I think one other print was bought by either Deutsche Bank or Goldman Sachs. So I’m pretty sure there were 5 .. I didn’t number them as I had no belief I would ever sell. It is made with seawater and an iron washer collected at Downpatrick Head in County Mayo. Seawater Regularly dripped under the washer on a glass plate for about two months until a surface of rust and salt crystals appeared. The resulting plate, that I still called a “negative” was then placed in an enlarger and light projected onto Sensitive paper in the darkroom. I could only make a few prints before the heat from the enlarger lamp dried the plate out so much it lost any kind of life or depth...other perils were crystals dropping off or on a particularly humid day, the plate returning to liquid state.. The print is on Beautiful Forte Museum paper from Hungary, no longer made, it’s then selenium toned for archival permanence and richer black. I hope that helps. Best wishes Paul Email 18 Jun 20
